We are currently open Thursday to Sunday.
5 course tasting menu £55
From 5pm to 5.30pm we offer a limited pre-theatre menu.
After 6.00pm we only operate a tasting menu and no a la carte is available.
Sunday Roast is available for a £10 supplement.
Communal dining.
Please note we do not take reservations for our garden tables.
FAQs
Is the restaurant accessible?
The Entrance has a small physical step leading into the main building. We do have an accessible toilet on-site. However, please be aware that the doorways leading to it are quite narrow, which may make it difficult to navigate depending on the size of your wheelchair.
How close is Playhouse?
We are often asked how far is The Cottage from The Playhouse and we are very close. 400m
We offer pre theatre menu as The Playhouse is a 5 minute walk along London Road
Is there a dress code?
No, We don’t dictate what to wear or what not to wear, we think most people would be dressed smart casual and relaxed or refined but we want you to be comfortable
Can you eat alone?
Yes, we are often asked Where to eat alone in Edinburgh and we think it is a perfect setting to eat alone with communal dining and a warm welcoming team to make you feel at ease. You are not dining alone you are dining on a table with friends you have not met yet.
Is the restaurant suitable for special occasions?
Yes, The Cottage will be suitable for all occasions from birthdays, anniversaries.
What is the dining atmosphere like?
Intimate, modern Scottish, refined, elegant and tranquil
Is there only communal dining?
Yes, we will stagger reservations in the restaurant so will offer a degree of intimacy so part of the charm is to share the dining room and the experience.
Is there private dining?
Yes, we can cater up to 8 in our Garden Room, or there is exclusive use of The Cottage as a whole. Enquire
Is there a beer garden?
Yes, whilst we wouldn’t necessary call it a beer garden. We do have a beautiful tranquil garden where we can welcome you for drinks, snacks or lunch. Please note we do not take reservations.
Do you offer a tasting menu or à la carte?
We will only be offering a tasting menu in the evening, with a short tasting menu for pre theatre and early evening followed by the full tasting menu for reservations from and including 6.30pm
Directions to The Cottage
Located in the historic gardener's cottage of Royal Terrace Gardens that are accessed from London Road. We are a 15 minute downhill walk from Waverley Station.
Fringe and Edinburgh Festival Hours
During August we will be open 6 days a week for lunch, pre theatre and dinner.
Do you cater to dietary requirements?
Yes, we can cater to all major allergens and use minimal gluten in the restaurant. We offer a vegetarian menu that can be easily adapted to vegan or dairy free requirements. We do kindly ask for 48 hours notice.
Dog Friendly?
No, I am sorry we do not welcome dogs into our restaurant but they are more than welcome in our grounds
Is there parking?
Yes, Pay-and-display is available on London, or the Q-Park at OMNi Centre is a 5-minute walk.
